We know when we need to go to the doctor, but how do we know when our website needs a checkup, or a site assessment?

Our business websites should (ideally) be up and running all day, every day, all year, right? It’s there to add value and bring you new clients. Having it go down, for any reason, for any period of time is bad.

That’s why regular site assessments and checks are a must. Now, if you’ve got a website person handling that, then they’ll be taking care of all of this for you. They could put together regular reports giving you specifics, even.

But if you don’t… well, it’s time to add “do a site assessment” to your calendar on regular intervals.

Here’s 3 reasons why you need to do it now.

Check Loading Time with a Site Assessment

How long are you willing to wait for a website to load? Odds are, it’s not very long. And that’s pretty normal. Nobody wants to wait, so our websites need to be speedy.

A site assessment can check performance levels to make sure it’s loading quickly enough that clients aren’t giving up on you or closing the window.

Check (and double check) Security Measures

Let me tell you a story about a favorite local restaurant of mine… one day, I wanted to get take-out from there. But, I wanted to try something new. So I hopped online to check their menu. Unfortunately, their entire site had been hacked. No menu. And I went elsewhere for lunch.

That’s what we don’t want to happen to your company and website. We don’t want you losing sales due to a security breach.

Regular website updates, checks, and security tests can make sure that your website stays secure and working like it’s designed to.

Test the User Experience – and Make it Better

When was the last time you tried using your website? Could you find what you needed?

Now, think about it from the perspective of a potential client or a visitor. Can they find what they need? Or are they getting frustrated and giving up on your site altogether?

The user experience needs to be designed to gently lead those visitors towards finding their answers. That way, it leads them towards becoming a regular, repeat client. Ignoring the user experience is only good if your goals include losing sales, frustrating clients, and getting bad reviews.

That’s why if you haven’t done any site assessments recently, I strongly recommend you do one as soon as possible.
